Our Mission

At Resilient Spirit Counseling, our mission is to provide hope and empowerment to all of our clients and their families. We provide evidenced based services to support those struggling with eating disorders, OCD, and other anxiety disorders so they can find healing. Our clients learn many tools and techniques so that they can continue their recovery journey outside of the therapeutic space.

Samantha McKenzie, LISW-CP

My role as your therapist is to help you find deeper meaning and understanding within yourself. We work together on figuring out the how and why you do what you do. Your behaviors are there because they were a coping mechanism at some point. It helped you get through difficult times or uncomfortable emotions, but now you’re realizing that they are no longer serving you. So often people think that you can just stop the obsessions and compulsions, or stop the restricting, bingeing, and purging. But it doesn’t work that way. I know that you can’t just stop, it’s not as simple as ‘just eat’ or ‘don’t worry about germs, you’re fine.’ Having OCD, an eating disorder, or an anxiety disorder is a real disorder. You didn’t choose this; but there is hope.

I work with my clients on gaining more understanding into their behaviors and slowly trying to modify their behaviors with exposures. Your story is unique and I work with you on being able to reach your goals and to live a more fulfilling life. We will work on letting go of perfectionism and self-criticism. Therapy can be messy at times and feel uncomfortable, but what we do know is that there is usually healing and growth in the messiness. It’s just a matter of allowing yourself to lean into the discomfort. I want to walk this journey with you. I know you’re feeling ambivalent, scared, or vulnerable about the idea of making changes, and that’s totally understandable. It’s hard giving up something that makes you feel safe, but is no longer useful. I know that recovery is possible and you can live a life in accordance with your values.
